It is possible no matter what your weight is, as long as you can walk. I'm serious. If you are dancing correctly it won't be a burden to your partner. Just stand on your own feet, don't lean on him, don't wait for him to drag you but respond to his lead by taking a step. Listen to the teacher and pay close attention when he/she tells you to transfer weight from one foot to the other. This is crucial, because your partner can't do it for you very effectively, no matter what your weight is - small or large. If the lady is not doing it than man complains that she's being too heavy even if she's tiny. Besides, I've heard some men say it looks sexy in Latin dance if the girl has little extra here and there. It's a great exersise, so be prepared for a change in shape.

Sure you can easily learn the steps. That's just a matter of practicing, which you can do 5-10-20 minutes at a time if you're out of shape. The more difficult part is when you're dancing to a song, which lasts 3-5 minutes and you're basically doing high intensity aerobics during that entire time- that can leave you breathless.
But learn the steps and enjoy dancing. There are a few very heavy people in my dance class and they learn as well as anyone.

Some great dancers I've known have not exactly been anorexic. And Latin doesn't have the close body contact of standard, so the corpulence is actually less of a problem with Latin.

yeah anyone can learn it, and for the person who answered before me latin does have close body contact, it all just depends on which dance you are doing, but with any style you don't necessarily have to have close body contact.

Sure. Not everyone will be a stellar dancer, but it's a good workout and fun as long as you don't take it too seriously like everyone is staring.
