I am signed up to take the ACT but someone told me that I should take the SAT because I don't have many transferable units. What is the difference between the two?

Here are some differences:
SAT has an essay, ACT has science
SAT penalizes for wrong answers, ACT does not
SAT is a lot of short timed tests, ACT has longer sections (but still timed)

As for which one is best to take, think about your strengths - are you better at writing or science? Also look at which one the college you want to go to takes (it may accept both). One nice thing about SAT is that some colleges will take your best math score and your best verbal score and combine them even if they weren't on the same day.

Really, it is just personal preference for which is better for you, and it won't hurt anything to take them both and then give the best one to the college.

I took them both. I felt like the ACT was easier. Plus, you have two sets of scores. Some schools ask for either the SAT or the ACT scores. In that case you can give them the better score.
