Do you guys think the same as me that so many bands/artists are coming along these days & are basically just copying the styles of bands from the past few years? I think its all getting tedious.
Before i continue, bands i think that are worth their salt:
razorlight, fratellis, kooks, the feeling, james morisson
I am sick to the back teeth of A and R signing artists who just fit the 'image of the moment' and actually are relatively talentless morons.
I'll start off with Lil Chris, besides 13-15 year old girls (with no taste in music), who would buy his stuff? He just saw that the music business likes bands like busted & mcfly at the moment and so labels thought lets give this kid a record deal. You have to be kidding me
2 others...Lily Allen & Lady SOV (Allen who just got in the industry due to her dad Fat Les frontman Keth Allen). She had a privilged upbringing and had contacts organise her a meeting in ibiza with an A n R guy. SOVs just a chav!
Who else agrees with this argument

I think there are many top bands and singers around at the moment, the ones you mentioned plus the Arctic Monkeys,The Killers etc.I dont see the appeal of Lily Allen I cant stand her music, but each to their own, theres not as much bubblegum pop around anymore like Steps,S club and boybands which can only be a good thing.Shows like pop idol do not help.

Well I sort of agree and disagree. But actually, on second thought, I disagree.
Keep in mind, there are FAR more musicians these days than there ever was in the past, and music has only started to evolve rapidly in the last few decades or so anyway.
There were few styles preceding the 1950's compared to how many there are today, so of course people had to be more creative then. They had to invent new styles, and come up with new things that had never been done.
Now there is so much music and so many musicians that a lot of things have just been done over and over, in a sense. Although music is infinite. Now there are so many styles. So many styles that musicians can work with and use, and experiment with.
I don't really think everything is a carbon copy at all. Metal for example has only been around since about 1970's, so, of course there are going to be a lot of musicians now-a-days using that style.
There is also a lot of new and creative ideas out there if you know how and where to look.
Music is evolving like never before.

I listen to most types of music-razorlight and kooks are amongst my top favourite bands but I love mcfly as well. music has a huge influence on my life-I dont care if a band is critically acclaimed, one of my biggest pet hates is music snobs. I listen to the likes of mcfly and similar bands because their music is fun and uplifting. I'm 18 years old and I bought 2 lil chris songs last week-I was at a concert a month ago, he performed at it and he was so great. to me, it doesnt matter how old a band/singer is or whether or not they're popular. music always affects the way I feel and I'll listen to anything that puts me in a good mood :)

That's all the record industry does is copy and recycle to sell idiot music to idiots who will buy that crap .
Just like the boy band craze a few years ago every label had a boy band that put out garbage for the 7 to 12 year old crowd .

I think it's fair to say that musical "artists" these days are more concerned with being popular than being good at what they do. The idea of honing your musical craft over years of hard work has been generally cast aside in favor of the idea of instant celebrity, a la American Idol.
There are certainly talented inividuals and bands out there to be heard....you do have to look for them.

I totally agree! There are only a few decent artists left out there, you've mentioned most of them. I also like Paolo Nutini. Hopefully people will come to their senses and stop buying rubbish, then all the talentless artists (if you can call them artists) will be put out of business!

Yes. I think it is the same with movies. Everything is a sequel or a re-make. If it is a different movie franchise, they use the same stories as others.
Not much out there that is original and fresh. You want to hear or see something new. Otherwise, what is the point?
