It is illegal and unethical in the entire United States because they are considered domesticated companion animals and we do not eat our pets!

ingesting of the beef from cats and canines has been unlawful interior the u . s . for truly a at the same time as. There are, notwithstanding, particular cultures interior the u . s . who do eat this meat yet they're hardly ever prosecuted for doing so. it remains criminal in Canada providing the beef isn't bought. and it is going to continually be that way because the authorities will not at all employ meat inspectors for that particular job even notwithstanding there are provisions for it in our foodstuff & wellbeing codes. If I were susceptible to eat canines (and that i likely AM no longer ) i ought to ring up some human beings interior sight to the position I stay in Canada and secure some canines meat. No money would substitute hands.

It's the same thing as alcohol and tobaccco, being legal, but marijuanna being illegal.
Cats are about as smart as dogs, pigs, turkeys, deer, and other animals...
But some are "okay" to eat, while others are NOT "okay" to eat....based more on social custom than on which is more harmful.
The reason is that traditionally, cats and dogs are "kept" animals...usaed for work or companionship. A non-farm pig (potbelly) can be smarter and more loving, more clean and more useful than a dog...but traditionally we raise pigs for food and dogs for work.
Cats have been kept in homes for centuries as rodent-killers, and so have become companion animals.
Because we, as a society, have become so enamored with "companion animals" to the point of thinking of them as "almost human", any domestic animal not raised for food is illegal to eat.

I think it would be considered illegal everywhere in the U.S.--as cruelty to animals. The official reason is that they are pets, which is defined as an animal that serves a purpose to people while ALIVE. The real reason is probably more along the lines of it would make a lot of animal lovers throw up and exact revenge.

I think it should be allowed.
It's stupid to say that certain animals are OK to kill for food but other aren't, based entirely on the personal biases of the law-makers who happen to own a cat.
It's like people that won't eat pigs because they're "too smart". At that point, you're just drawing an imaginary line in your head about what is right and wrong.
I WANT MY CAT MEAT DAMMIT!

Many people think eating any animal is wrong. Being illegal is a different matter altogether. I'm not aware of legal restrictions on eating animals.

No....we don't eat cats in the US. We don't eat horses either. Even though they are eaten in other countries. We don't eat dogs or rats either. Consider it part of our culture.

Old state laws that never get enough attention, so they just stay on the books. In Tucson, it is illegal to own camels.
