I'm not sure about this but I think the state will take over her possession, auction most of her things off and give what isn't sold to charity. As for the animals call your local SPCA. If she passed away at her home then the police should of already call the SPCA and they are aware of the situation,if not then you should call, otherwise the animals will go untreated and possibly forgot about.

well thats great you are conserned about the pets and her things. i suggest you take the pets into your home and if your not ok with keeping them put an ad in the paper for them to be adopted.
the goverment will at some point step in . the landlord may leave this all for months .
i would take the pets and the plants and really anything you like so long as you are prepared to give it to some family of hers if some of them come out of the woodwork.
the landlord does have some responsibility for the things.
here in ontario the landlord has to store the items for up to one full year if no one comes to claim them. then after that they throw them all in the dump if no one has come.
so this is why you may as well take some things you want .
i wont mention this to the landlord or mention the pets to him just take the stuff and then make him aware you have the pets.
its all kind of silly the way it works but that happens

You should call animal control or the ASPCA about the animals. The state will not come and get them!

Someone on here said you should get them but you be careful about that if it is a crime scene you should not go there. Call ASPCA first.

If she left no will and has no relatives, it goes to probate and the state determines what happens to her estate.
