I would get an independent inspection specifically for mold, and I would ask the Realtor. Better yet, have your real estate attorney inquire through the Realtor. If they don't disclose this they may be liable if it does happens.

If the neighbors say it, they may have a grudge against the current owners and may be trying to sabotage the sale of the home. Or, they may in fact just be trying to warn you off of a bad deal.

Either way, get it checked out. Mold can be dangerous and very difficult and expensive to remove. Good luck.

i think the new neighbors probably have something weird going on that they volunteer this information. i had an apartment that grew mushroooms in the bathroom after the roof leaked so it is possible if given enough moisture. some molds are harmless and others are hazardous. if the house has air vents in the ceiling you can often see the mold spores around the vents. look for little dark fan shaped spots on the vents and ceiling. these of course can be washed off but are a telling sign of mold in the air vents which is not healthy at all. you might want to find another realator who can suggest an inspector. dealing with multiple realtors usually keeps them more honest especially if they know about each other.

Yes, mold is hazardous to you health in many ways. Plus all that moisture in the air could cause structural damage to your house as well. This is something that should be disclosed to you in writing by the owner before you purchase the property. I'm not sure I would take the word of the neighbors, but have your agent ask about the situation.

Ask the people you are buying from about this and get someone to inspect the house thoroughly. They should be able to detect any mold spores. Even if they are not poisonous, do you really want mushrooms growing in your basement or bathroom? This could be costly to remedy. So get it checked out before you sign on the dotted line.

I would think that the mold is dangerous and I wouldn't want to take the chance - especially if mushrooms are growing! I don't know why the neighbors would lie. Sellers have been known not to disclose information. I would steer clear of this house!

In most of the country the sellers have to provide a disclosure form that tells you of problems. Make sure you ask for it and read it, Make sure you buy the house subject to your approval of the disclosure form and the inspection. A good inspector can see evidence of mold and yes mold is hazardous to your health.

If that is true, you can back out of the sale. The owner is required by law to not hold that sort of information from you. Have your agent check into this. You do not want a house with mold issues.

Sounds like a vendetta against the sellers. A good inspector can determine this. Caveat emptor.
