When it goes small, it constricts.

Large. When your eye sees something pleasing i.e a cute boy/girl your pupil dilates aswell as the bright sunlight and drug intake, alcohol consumption etc. Watch out for it next time you're talking to a girl you fancy and you will be able to tell if she likes you too.

Dialation opens the hole into the eye, pupil, so the doctor has a better view of the inside and back of the eye. For a few hours your vision will be blurry and you should avoid sunlight (wear sunglasses if you have to go outside). The procedure does NOT hurt.

When your pupils are dialited the black part of the eye gets really large so you can hardly see the eye's natural color. Often times dialated pupils are the effect of drugs.
