Sky Harbor airport has been considerably upgraded in past 3 years. There are 3 terminals with Terminal 4 being the largest. All 3 terminals have a food court type area to eat in their center section. Terminal 4 has a Burger King, Pan Pizzas etc. plus 2 larger restaurants with table service along with 10-12 nice shops. I've always found it very easy to get around and each airline has large monitors listing arrivals and departures. Usually connecting flights are less than a 6-8 minute walk between gates. However, if you're changing airlines there's a convenient larger Terminal shuttle bus that passes by every 5-7 minutes. You should find things very low key and probably relatively uncrowded at 9 AM.

I have never had a layover at Skyharbor Airport because it's where I fly in and out of, so really the answer to your question could be difficult. The food issue truly depends upon which terminal you go to. Which airline you are flying with tells you which terminal you go to. Terminal 4 is HUGE and is the newest. It is also the one that has been recently remodeled and has lots of different food choices, not just fast food but local Mexican places like El Bravo. The other terminals are smaller and have less to offer, but very easily navigated. If you are not changing airlines you should have a very easy time of it and I wish you good luck on your travels.

I think Sky Harbor Airport- in Phoenix- is one of the nicest in the country. You'll be passing through there at a rather busy time- but you shouldn't have any serious problems finding what you need (& there are always plenty of people to ask- for help) or making your connections. Have a good trip! :)

Yes, Phoenix is a great airport. It is very big, but not like Chicago. They have art in cases and on the walls. Grab some food and walk around the whole place. It's not a bad place to kill some time. If you don't like art. Drink at the bar.

I have flown into Phoenix on a layover on my way to Vegas. The airport is fairly large. The food is not bad...typical franchise foods, such as Pizza Hut.
Have a look at this link: http://phoenix.gov/skyharborairport/food_shops_services/index.html

I find Phoenix to be a very confusing airport to navigate around. It is large and has decent shops and food choices.
Very clean and modern facility. You will be find. Just don't leave the airport because you will have difficulty finding your way back in if you are unfamiliar with it.
