Ok, you're getting some good and some terrible advice here. I'm an IT professional. Unlike most people I'm not guessing or listening to a friend. I know what I'm talking about.

The Intel Core 2 Duo is the FASTEST processor for ANY task. If you don't believe me do a web search for benchmarks. It is best for gaming, typing, CD burning, EVERYTHING. Don't worry about GHz.

The clock speed is way overrated. Think of the P4 as a sports car that only seats 2 people. Sure it's fast, but if you are moving 50 people what is going to get them somewhere faster, a 2 passenger sports car, or a 50 passenger bus?

For Dual cores the best is the Intel Core 2 Duo, followed by the AMD Athlon64 X2. The Intel Pentium Dual cores come in third. The Dual core pentiums also use more power and generate alot of heat. Maximum PC magazine even joked that they could double as a space heater.

Just to back up a few people here, your video card is the most important component for gaming, followed by RAM.

I'd kill a man in front of his own momma for a Dual Core Pentium 4 Extreme Edition. Those things rock my socks off.

I just bought a new Core Duo 6600 2.4GHz, and it's very solid. If you're talking about the 4300 1.8GHz, then I wouldn't do it.

Pentium 4 Dual Core is a powerhouse of a processor. Sure it takes up more energy, but who cares. If you buy a muscle car, you don't worry about gas mileage.

If you're not counting your pennies and you want to get REALLY nuts...type in "QX6700" to Amazon.com. It's the Quad-core Intel. That's what I'm talking about.

That guy has no idea what he is talking about.

The Core 2 Duo series is the SUCCESSOR to the Pentium series.

An E4300 @ 1.8Ghz is MUCH faster than a Pentium @ 3.4Ghz.

And if u overclock the E4300 to 3.4Ghz, u will have the most powerfull CPU on the planet.

CPUs aren't where the gaming power is at, it's in the graphics card. The CPU won't make a very big difference.

Hi. In both cases the quality of your video card will determine the better gaming experience, IMO.

AMD Ftw seriously Intel are slower and use more battery power (so it lasts longer)

yes..its true but an even better CPU is a Celeron there specifically designed for high graphics and gaming..but suck at things like word processing..

yes it has a faster processing speed, so there will be less or no delay in the game.
