Sounds like a boot sector virus, if you can run XP in safe mode and alter the settings or system restore then give that a try (press F8 as the BIOS screen ends and goes into windows OS). If you cannot do any of that stuff then you will have to reformat your hard disk and reactivate windows- which is an annoyance!

Ohh yeah and you need a windows XP home/pro disk and machine product key to do this, if you dont have/ didnt recieve these when you purchased the laptop be aware as it may not be legal...

Hi. Check some of these ideas. : http://www.aumha.org/win5/a/shtdwnxp.php and : http://www.techspot.com/vb/all/windows/t-11607-Help-Stuck-in-XP-reboot-loop-hell.html and here : http://pcs.suite101.com/article.cfm/startup_and_recovery_option

Press F8 to enter safe mode, then
1. Right click "My Computer" and choose Properties.
2. Click on the "Advanced" tab
3. Click on the "Settings" button listed under "Startup and Recovery"
4. In the middle of this box under "System failure" there is a check box next to "Automatically restart". Uncheck this box.
5. Now OK out of "Startup and Recovery" and "System Properties"

if the laptop has been working ok before this started (meaning i hope you did not buy it with this fault) i would check the following:
have you updated any drivers?
have you installed any new progs?
have you run spyware/adware removals?
do you have anti virus software running?
have you altered any bios settings?
have you attempted an overclock?

if so:
remove any new progs
remove any driver updates, install original drivers
run spy/adware progs, run anti virus (first job)
reset to default settings in bios
most of this will need to be done in safe mode, other replies tell you how to do this.

No, i do no longer think of there could be any virus. There could desire to be many stuff working in history while ur workstation is booted up. attempt this"yamisoft abode windows 7 supervisor" utility. it may tweak into ur device and permit you to know the apps. Which runs at history and provides you with the characteristic to close it.

Use a bigger boot! HaHa:)

Did it get wet? Let it dry.

Unplug the power cord and take the battery out. Wait 15 seconds--put the battery back in and re-plug power cord--then try again.

Did you recently add new software?
