I hear this often and i don't quite get it. I know people discriminate against Gays, but Black people have went thru hell in this country and to me it's an insult to any Black person to say that Gays have suffered like Blacks. The difference is you can hide being Gay, but you can't hide being Black.

I think some of you guys are missing my point. I'm not saying it's right to discriminate against anyone, whether Gay, Black, or whatever. My point is that Gays can get away with being Gay if they choose to. Sure, you have some that are openly Gay and proud of it, but you have some that are in the closet and can keep from being discriminated against simply by not telling anyone that their Gay. Blacks don't have that option. If a Gay man walks into a store and he's not openly Gay, who's going to know if he is Gay? A Black person walks into a store and you immediately know he's Black. And the discrimination may start right away. No one knew John Amechi was Gay until he came out recently, but i'm sure everyone knew he was Black. That's my point. You can't hide skin color.

Being gay and being black is not even the same thing. So I dont think there is any way you can compare. I've seen my share of racism.

The comparison being made is prejudice. Just as some people will automatically dislike someone because of their race, there are also those who automatically dislike someone due to their sexual orientation. Both kinds of people have been persecuted, harassed, harmed, discriminated against, etc.

I don't understand why one group or the other would argue or get upset about who has been treated worse...that ANY poor treatment has gone on should be cause for everyone to be upset. I'd think the "harmed" people would ban together and show support for one another and all people who have been treated unkindly over an issue they cannot control, instead of being upset someone else is trying to be a bigger 'victim' than they are.

But the mere fact that someone should hide the fact that they're gay makes clear that they're certainly being discriminated against in an awful manner. Just because you can hide being gay doesn't mean you don't feel threatened. If you have to hide being gay, that means you can get fired, beat up or discriminated in other ways when people find out you're gay. Black people have gone through hell in your country ( and a lot of them still are I guess) but so have gay people. And gay people get discriminated by people from each and every origin.

well they use that just to say they suffer disrimination as well i agree with you that the level of intolerance is not quite as bad as the blacks but thier still concidered a 2nd class people becuase of thier beliefs and i know you can say they can hide ebng gay but thats not the point we AER A FREE country where you shouldnt have to hide life style choices and really some people really cant hide it any better than black people can being black i know youve come across them before the flamers even if they were wearing flannel and driving a big rig couldnt hide it
bottom line
1. they use it to show they are discrimnated against as it is the most felt in america (that of the black person everyone knows and feels for what happened to them)
2.they cant and/or should have to hide it
3.i agree it's not of the same caliber and it's border line wrong for them to say so but with the way things are they'll say anything to bring attention to thier plight

I don't think anyone should be comparing themselves with anyone else. Many different kinds of people have been abused (people of different races, genders, sexual orientations, income levels, etc.). I don't think it really helps to say that some people were treated better/worse than others. But I do think that people who have a history of being abused should be more understanding. I agree with the person who said it's hypocritical for blacks to hate gays. Since both are treated as second class (or lower) in our society, they should be more aware and mature than to diminish each other. We are all human and even white people have been abused (I'm white and I'm always a victim of racism...I'm not comparing myself, just stating a fact). Not all black people have been abused and not all white people are privledged. Yes, it's easier to hide your sexual orientation, but you shouldn't have to hide who you are. You still get discriminated against or even killed. People should work together and stop dividing based on stereotypes.

What about being a woman? Okay, we've got it easy now, but we had freakin twenty thousand years of being beaten and raped and sold as property. Just thank goodness it's not like that anymore, and if people start to forget about it and treat past horrors as a triviality (and I agree that's what is going on here), we should recognize this means the suffering is over.

Well, the worst of it is over. And with understanding and support between all types of people we'll get through the rest of it.

Gays do not "be sure" to be gay, in simple terms such as you probably did not "be sure" to be on the instant. And the blacks/gays arguments you're listening to at the instant are not on the subject of the ethical objection to homosexuality, they are extraordinarily approximately denying the appropriate to marriage. the comparable language is used to disclaim gays that suitable as replaced into used to disclaim interracial marriage in the 50s: that it replaced into "illicit intercourse;" that it replaced into opposite to God's will; and that it replaced into someway "unnatural." Sound ordinary? And, via the way, the comparable language that replaced into used against integrating the army is now getting used against gays in the militia. for example: "This coverage has been shown passable over an prolonged era of years and to make transformations could produce circumstances unfavorable to morale and unfavorable to the arrangements for national protection.” it quite is not with regards to do not ask/do not tell, it quite is a memo from Roosevelt's Secretary of conflict.

With all my respects to you I think the comparison is deeper than that:
What they mean by that is that the Gay right activist movements needed to go through lots of things in order to get recognized. If you are not aware of that you might need to consult History. Gays were abused and mistreated, they were abducted and killed, They lost their jobs and get deserted by everyone. It wssn't until recently (and not everywhere) that they started to get some freedom.
The comparison didn't mean to insult anyone and it is not an insult of being Gay.
I think you need to go through lots of things in life in order to appreciate what you have now.

P.S: it is not question of hiding it. It is about who you are.

It is NOT the same. Homosexuality/Lesbianism is a LIFESTYLE that is considered an abomination unto the Lord. You choose to live the lifestyle of being homosexual/lesbian, but you are born with the skin color that God has given you. Homosexual/Lesbians can change & become hetrosexual which is 1 man & 1 woman as God almighty intended!!!
