My family and I are planning on going on a week trip to North Carolina in early August. We are planning on staying in Charlotte and Asheville. I have 2 children - a teenage daughter and a 10 year old son.
I've never been to North Carolina but have heard many things about it. My son wants to mine rocks, my daughter and I want to go white water rafting and go down sliding rock, and my husband will do anything - he's a big sport fans so I don't know maybe a baseball game or what ever is in the season.

Is there any good places to do these things? Where is sliding rock? What else do you think we should do because we are spending a week there?

i think you mean blowing rock, its close to asheville. In fact I would stay up there instead of charlotte (these towns are about a 5 hour drive apart from each other). you will find places to go rock climbing, hang gliding and bungee jumping up in asheville, not to mention biltmore estate and vineyards and parks, there are also places close by that have mining expeditions for rocks and also gold. Charlotte is more for indoor entertainment, dining etc. I hope you enjoy your stay

If you're going to be in Charlotte, you might think about checking out Discovery Place. As for the mountains, mining rocks is always fun for kids, and there will be tons of places to do that and to do some rafting if you want. Most of the things you mentioned will be very easy to find when you get there.
