Hi everyone...I had a miscarriage on Jan 18th. I was 5 weeks pregnant; didn't need a D&C. I FINALLY got my period yesterday, Feb 20. It has been more painful than my usual periods, and I have more blood clots than usual as well. It seems to be just a little bit lighter than usual, but not much. My husband and I were using the "withdrawal" method and I took 3 pregnancy tests before my period arrived - so the chance that I was pregnant again (and having another miscarriage) is VERY unlikely. Sooo, is it normal for your first period after a miscarriage to be a bit unusual as described above? I will be calling my doctor once my period it over but I wanted to get some real life examples and opinions. Thank you!

My doctor told us it was ok to have sex after the bleeding stopped...just to let you guys know. All HPTs I took came back negative. The doctor said we could start trying again after one period, which we will begin shortly - since my period finally arrived after the miscarriage.

Yes, that's normal.

I'm sorry for your loss, I personally know the pain. And, I'm sorry you had to go through that. I also had a miscarriage at the end of 2004. I did have to have a D&C, but my period was like you described. A LOT more painful, clottier, and the color was off. My doc said it's just your body repairing itself and nothing to worry about.

I was seeing a reproductive endocronologist (fertility doctor) at the time. He said I did NOT need to wait 4/6 weeks to start trying again. He said the likelyhood of a pregnancy was slim, but if I wanted to give it a shot he was behind me. And, we did. However, we didn't get pregnant until June of 2005.

Alot of that was because it was a very emotional experience for me. I think it depends on the woman, and if you are ready ---- Go for it!!

PS: I don't think you were pregnant either. I think the bleeding was just your regular period. But, it was off because of the trauma you went through last month. Nothing to worry about :))

I have had 5 miscarriages and never had a painful period with clots afterwards, you need to go to the doctor so they could find out whats going on!

You should have waited at least a month to six weeks before having intercourse again. Just to allow your body to heal. The first period after a miscarriage would tend to be different just due to trauma of the miscarriage.
