Rephrase - How can i stop my win xp home edition from letting others shut the computer down when i have disconnected from my user area but i am still logged on.

This is tough, since you didn't provide much information (such as why the computer is shutting down when someone is logged on...)

My guess is the current situation is this: someone logs on and leaves the computer for an extended period of time (to download something, or they need to run to the store real quick, or overnight) and when they come back, it is turned off (or appears to be off.)

If that is the case, you most likely have to modify the power settings. To do this, go to Start -> Setttings -> Control Panel -> Power Options. First tab open will be for Power Schemes - the portion you are looking for is the "Settings for Home/Office Desk power scheme." Make sure that system standby, system hibernates and turn off hard disks are all set to never.

Once you do that, run through the same sequence above, but choose Display instead of Power Options, then find the Screensaver tab and make sure you have a screensaver set (or you might have some burn in - possibly only on older monitors, though.)

Once that has been done, there shouldn't be any reason for Windows to automatically shut down.
