Never would have thought of it on my own, but darn if you're not right! We had several dogs growing up, sometimes 5 at a time and there was white poo all over the place. As children we attributed it to the ghosts of dogs past. Now as an adult I have 2 dogs of my own and the only poo that has ever been white is when my big guy eats something like a paper towel. This dog will eat anything! even dust bunnies. We should have named him Hoover. Anywho, I like to think that the guy who mentioned the disuse of some preservative is correct. Anything that could cause that ghostly dog poo ain't right to eat!

The disappearence of white dog poo is down to what dogs eat these days.
White poo is the calcium left behind as the water evaporates, and the 'organic' components of the crap are consumed (in various ways) leaving the inorganic stuff behind.
Historically, before BSE came along, butchers used to dish out bones for dogs to munch on.
But nowadays dogs don't eat as much bone as they used to, including bone meal. This all got the lid shoved on it due to the BSE crisis. Also, tighter regulation on dogs crapping on pavements means that turds don't hang around for years in public places like they used to, giving them less opportunity to dry out and turn white.

I always thought it was attributed to certain breeds. We raised dogs growing up, never had any white poo, but the neighbors dog who used our yard had white poo.
PS There's white poo next to where my trash was picked up this morning. I'm sure coutresy of the neighbor's cats that can't seem to stay out of my trash, even when in the trash cans.

I remember it well. This is gross okay....but when we were very little and knew no better we used it as chalk for hopscotch on the pavement outside!!! We always thought it was white because our neighbour's dog used to do it and he was white!!
I think it comes from dogs eating marrow bone! Apparently it does contain a real chalk substance...so we weren't so daft..ha!

It was only white because it dried up! you probably don't see it now because owners have to pick it up. Get back to your drink... you need it.
