Saw an article online in Newsweek where they asked the question whether the cost of rescuing people from mountains, gorges, etc. should be passed on to the people being rescued? This was in response to the trio of climbers and their dog who had to be rescued just recently from the same area where other climbers just recently died.

I feel the cost should be passed on to them. The rescue groups are risking their lives for people who accepted the risk of their actions. Also, while dogs like the outdoors, these people were irresponsible in taking a dog on this dangerous climb without any safety or cold weather gear for the dog. It was lucky that they did have the dog though.

I think some of the cost should be absorbed by the climbers, and the rest billed to their insurance companies. I mean if you need an ambulance, you get billed for that. Same principle right?
