say that the U.S. military is composed mostly of Republicans/Conservatives. When in fact, less than 50% of the military are Republicans/Conservatives.

who cares if it is from a "liberal source". if it is a fact, it doesn't matter what the source is. So far "John" is the only one who took the time to provide any contrary information.

Statistical & semantic problem here.
If by "mostly" you mean "a majority", then they probably are referring to the 30-year historical trend that only very recently shifted to a NON-majority of military personnel self-identifying as Pubblies. There may be a number of explanations for this phenomenon, including erosion of the GOP power base among military-oriented folks and mere embarrassment among personnel who are still Pubblies but don't want to say so.
But if "mostly" means (as the denotation would indicate) "more of this than anything else", then they might actually still be right! If 46% of military personnel are Pubs, and 8% + 1 are anything other than Democrat (I am assuming that Democrats would have most of the remaining 54% that are not Republican), then the US military would still be mostly Republican, but holding a plurality rather than a majority.
It's kind of like when Clinton got elected President. He did not get a majority, but he did get most of the votes, meaning more than anybody else got.
The article did not mention the percentages for Democrats or other parties; are these numbers out there anywhere?

That is an opinion peace. A student of Statistics should always look for references. Where are these numbers coming from? Will the LA Times let us see the poll? What edition of the Military Times is the reporter referring to?
She does not cite because she is wrong and does not want you to prove her wrong.

First off, you got this from the opinion section of the Liberal A$$ Times. Second, it doesn't talk about how many military members don't even claim which they are. Most of the guys I know don't even know the difference between a Repub or a Dem. All the guys that I do know in the military that choose a side are Republicans. Except for one.

It appears that you did not read the article because is says "In the 2004 poll, the percentage of military respondents who characterized themselves as Republicans stood at 60%." last I checked that is "mostly" now it also says the the number has declined in recent years however it doesn't say what percentage identify themselves as democrat. I'm sure its less than the 46% republican according to that poll. Once again another liberal posts a question without actually thinking it through.

They are Republicans because facts do not matter to them. They make up whatever they want to believe in. Rush Limbaugh gets his beliefs from using synthetic opiates, he broadcasts his delusional fantasies, and millions of gullible listeners believe every word he says and with the disaster in Iraq and the trillion dollar debt to Communist China and the Constitution pretty much just a bunch of empty words now, you can see how well that has worked out. They live in, they love fantasy and delusion, they base their policies on delusions, not reality, and that has never worked out either for individual people (who are called "insane") or for systems of government, which become extinct.

That's a crock of horse crap. I just got out 6 months ago. Your source is laughable--the LA Times, sister of the NY Times both Liberal rags. If you want a real source you will need HQ data like at the Air Force Personnel Center at Randolph AFB. They have the real deal.............

There's a difference between Conservatives and Republicans you know. But here's a fact for you, a majority of our soldiers come from small towns. And small town America is conservative. So do the math.

Does it really matter? We know all politicians lie, so it's probably just the Republicans attempting to build support. Personally, I could care less what percentage of our military is Republican or Democratic.
