Beckham might be recalled to the England squad. He is at the end of his career, will soon be playing in an inferior league, and his only remaining talent is free kicks. Considering recent performances, is including Beckham really the answer to England's problems?

Downing plays on the left. If Beckham was left-footed I might be tempted to include him too.
Becham can cross but no longer has the speed to get past a defender, so he crosses from too deep every time.

England needs something right now. I do understand that several key players were missing against Spain, but most should be back by the qualifier in Israel other than Michael Owen and Joe Cole (who played very well in the Netherlands last fall in the friendly). McClaren seems to think that all will be well when Owen Hargreaves is back in the side, and while I do think he'll be a positive spark for the team, I think England needs more. After watching him and Beckham head to head on Tuesday, it was obvious that both were vitally important for their respective teams, but Beckham was involved in all three of Real Madrid's goals in his man-of-the-match performance. He controlled the first half and helped put goals on the scoresheet. If he can do that for England, then he is desperately needed. Of course, until things are sorted out in central midfield, it won't matter who's serving up the crosses and set pieces, although Beckhams performances in the past two weeks seem to indicated that he still is one of the best at that.
And I agree, Stewart Downing is worthless on the left (and everywhere else).

What possible more harm could McClaren do to the England Squad by bringing back David Beckham, There is no rule that he has to play for the whole 90 minutes, but if he was there he might be helpful. Well he would not make the Squad any worse. Plus him being there might make sure certain Football Players put Football First for a change.

Beckham is still a force to be in the squad it is not just his free kicks but his pin point acurate crosses .He isn't ove the hill the manager just haven't got a clue.If he does leave beckham out he has the perfect replacement in Lennon so why doesn't he use him instead of the useless Downing.

why do so many people have a problem with beckham?? so he isnt as fast as he use to be and his dead ball skills are his main attribute, but you know what is that really such a bad thing? who else can fill that gap in the team? who else can do the job he used to do? just stick him in the squad and let him play a few games see what he can do. how many games has he turned around for england in the past?! if it doesnt work out what have we lost? nothing! sure give youth a chance but they can learn from him too! he may not be the solution but he wont add to the problem.

england have no depth when one or two players are injured they have no replacements...
it doesn't hurt to have beckham pushing for a place in the side again and for me he still has the best right foot in the game..
last night he was outstanding for real madrid

He played well for Real Madrid again last night and showed more determination than many of England's players did against Spain. To many of our so called top flight players hardly break sweat.

No not really he is too old.. it is much better to take a young prospect and groom him into kicking the free kicks then in 2010 we will have a free kicker who can kick for three world cups.

No he is not the answer, I never rated him anyway. He was off target more often than on target with his free kicks, let the shermans have him.
We dont need the glory boy in the England team.
