I've put on a stone in 3 months of having the coil fitted. Feel very sluggish, spotty and generally a bit fed up. Any thoughts appreciated.

I have Mirena........and weight gain was a big concern of mine, before having it placed. My Dr told me it was a rare side effect. I have had mine for over 7 months and my weight hasn't changed at all.

Good luck......I hope you find the cause.

Hi, I had the mirena coil for 1 year after the birth of my son. I had no problems with weight gain, but I did have problematic periods. I have under-active thyroid disease (got this about 4 years after the removal of the mirena coil) and the symptoms you are describing would fit with that....its always a possibility. I would ask your Doctor for a Thyroid function test, you have every reason to want one because of your weight gain. I gained two stone in under a year and when mine was tested it came back that my Thyroid gland wasnt producing enough Thyroxine (which is an important hormone in our body that controls all sorts of stuff) Im saying this to you as often Thyroid condition gets over looked and your health care providers may just be blaming the miren coil for the weight gain but it could be what I have. My spots are terrible. My weight has increased. I have no energy. I sleep more. I have sore joints at times. I generally feel unwell.....even though im on Medication for it. Goodluck and hope all goes well for you x x
