you'll need to take a sturdy tape measure with you. hold the tape measure in one hand and extend the tape out with your other hand. keeping the tape extended, butt the silver tip into the corner created by the floor and the wall, and then begin extending the tape. As you extend the tape it will begin walking up the wall. Roll the tape to the ceiling corner and read the tape at that corner.
There's a picture of a guy doing it in the referenced link- or you can buy a laser tape from Stanley. (second link)

you might as well not even worry about it then, because what ever you need 1/16 inch for just won't pan out, since the ceiling is not perfectly level (and neither is the floor) you will have variations in the height from the floor to ceiling that will be out of your accurateness range! other wise hold the tape against a wall and touch the end to the ceiling and make a mark on the wall at say the 7 foot mark,,then put the end to the floor and measure up to your mark,, add the two!!!

Really simple - butt the end of your tape to the floor or ceiling - make a pencil mark at any number you want - 50, 60, 70 ,80 inches. Then measure from the opposite direction to your mark and add the two numbers together.

Get a piece of 1x about 10' long. At the end of the tape measure should be a small hole in it. Nail that to the end of the 1x put the tape on floor lift up to the ceiling the tape will not fall and you have your measurements..... Hope you understand what I'm saying.......

just run the tape up against a wall from floor to ceiling. you won't need a ladder or another person to hold the
other end of the tape.

Use two pieces of wood, like 1x2 or 1x4. hold one end of one piece of wood to the ceiling, place the end of the second piece on the floor and mark a line where the pieces overlap. then lay the wood pieces on the floor, line up your mark and measure the total length.
