Are people who say they know it is nothing, just guessing as much as the people who believe in reincarnation or god?

Do you believe that humans are animals, have developed through evolution, and are descended from a common ancestor of humans and great apes?

What do you think happens to other animals after they die?

Have you made a "great leap of faith" and chosen to believe in some form of life after death, or do you think it's all over when the body dies?

You have to decide for yourself. You know as much about it as anyone.

The truth that has been measured is this:

Scientists have determined there is a constant weight loss when the person dies; this is extremely small. The body then decays and attracts magnets. To maintain a society disease free we need to handle the body through burial services.

Survivor’s gather together and remember their loved one with prayers, poetry, and human fellowship. Each culture, religion, and person has different ways of honoring the dead. In many ways, the death is a big way to bring family and friends together to celebrate, remember, and grieve the life & loss of the person. This fellowship is bigger than the loss of the life.

All people, cultures, and religions do have a reoccurring theme of an after life. This constant opens a big possibility that there is in fact existence after the physical body's ceases. Which one is true? Only God and the dead truly know this secrete.

As a Christian, I believe in the resurrection & perfect restoration of my body (through Christ) and reunification with God. Scientifically, I cannot prove this without a doubt; I can feel it in the unity of my mind, body, and soul though - that’s all I need.

No. No one will ever know the truth about what happens after we die. Medically speaking, you can read about what happens physically, but many claim there is more to death than just the death of the material body. The reason no one can ever know is because this "soul" or other non-material energy does not perceive or exist in our "material" world. Therefore if a soul were to actually leave the body, it cannot communicate with our reality. Now many will claim that a soul can cross this boundary, however I personally feel it is a completely different reality, and humankind will never understand it or be able to measure it.
(an agnostic view)

The problem with death is you have to experience it to understand it. But in that understanding, you lose the ability to tell others what it's like.

There is a good reason why we do not or should not know much about the afterlife.
Imagine a child in the womb of his mother. If he really new what is waiting for him when he is born to this physical world, with all probability he would want to be born immediately.
His parents have been waiting for him with all the love and affection than they can give for more than nine months, they have a beautiful room full of toys ready for him. Friends and family are anxious to know him. There are a myriad of new things to learn and experience, music to listen to etc...But most important of all he has the opportunity to finally use the beautiful eyes that he developed in the womb to see the world around him, he can now use his feet to run and feel the earth beneath him, his ears to listen to all the noises of nature, etc. All the faculties that he had been growing in the womb were of no use to him in that environment. So if he new that he would be able to fully enjoy them in the physical world he would no doubt want to be born immediately. The same is true for us in this physical world.
"If we could see even through the eye of a needle the glorious world that is awaiting us, we would all rush to kill ourselves."

I don't see how anyone can prove anything one way or another. you take what we can observe and it doesn't look like anyone goes somewhere else when they die so there's no biological reason to think they do. there are anecdotes from people, but are they reliable?

I think the best position is to say it's rather unlikely given there's no positive verifiable evidence, but since all we can say is that it's unlikely then we can also say that no one really does know the truth about it.

When in doubt go with whatever you want to believe is true even if you dont really believe it, i think thats what most people do. As for me im gonna stick with reincarnation and eventual enlightenment.

According to Hindu mythology, when a person dies his/her soul reaches yamaloka (the place where the dead reach) & pays its price (i.e., gets punishments for the misdeeds).its after this, that soul again enters a new body (i.e., a person changes clothing whenever required in the same way the soul too discards the old body & enters a new body). If the person is very virtuos in his/her birth then after death the soul attains salvation (a state of eternal joy) & it is then the chain of rebirth is broken.

What we believe happens to us after we die is based on Faith.

As for what really happens? I guess we'll just have to wait and see just what the truth really is...

That's right. No one can tell for sure. I believe in reincarnation, and I'm pretty sure that's the way it goes (source: experience), but who knows...

Well when I die I promise to come back and tell you. But I am not planning on doing that too soon so you may have a little while to wait.
