Ultrasonic hearing is a recognized auditory effect which allows humans to perceive sounds of a much higher frequency than would ordinarily be audible using the physical inner ear, usually by stimulation of the base of the cochlea through bone induction.

Some humans have the documented ability to hear high pitched noises others can't even as they age. It isn't hypersensitivity, for example, because they can't hear some of the frequencies they could hear when they were a kid, but can hear above them.

Humans Ultrasonic hearing is hearing any noise that normal people cannot- like how I can hear my in-laws gas grill burner and how I got excused from a physics lab because I could hear the current generator and they didn't have earplugs for me (the prof made me stand outside the hall and flicked it on and off repeatedly so the students could see I could hear it. Even from down the hall I could tell it was on and off...it was LOUD.) Often people have 1-2 specific ultrasonic pitches they can hear and others can't. Some people working on it think things other than the normal stuff is at fault.

Ultrasonic hearing in animals is defined as hearing pitches humans can't, in general.
