I know the west coast beaches are nicer, but my boys think they are BORING because you can't really boogie board or surf. We're originally from California so they like a heavy surf. I'm thinking about staying at the Best Western Cocoa Beach, hitting the waves and the space center. What other fun places are in the area (not Orlando, though!)? Thanks!

Cantor might be pulling my leg about shark attacks, but i checked a map of them anyway and it looks like you can pretty much be attacked anywhere in FL...

A few other places you can visit that my family really enjoys are the Brevard zoo( you get to hand feed the giraffes) and Sebastian inlet. If you plan on going to Sebastian it will be an all day affair. It will cost $5 to get into the park, but the waves are great on the beach-side( they have surf competition's there) and at the inlet area it is calm like a lake and you can see alot of wildlife. We have seen many Manatees and Dolphins almost every time we go.
Something else that is really fun to do, rent a boat on the river, there are a ton of little islands to explore and wildlife to observe.
