I work in a building where there are men's and women's restrooms that are designed to accomodate more than one person at a time. There is a transvestite who comes to our office a couple of times a week. Which restroom should he/she use?

The person you see is probably a transsexual and NOT a transvestite. Transvestites only dress as women every once in a while and not all the time. That shows that their gender presentation is just an act and not a part of who they are.

Transvestites are supposed to use the men's restroom, since they are only men who dress as women, and for no important reason.

Transsexuals, ie., those getting or who have had the surgery use the restroom that correspond to who they are inside. Transsexuals live as women ALL the time. Since they live as a woman all the time, they should use the women's restroom.

Well, I guess this whole thing depends on the individual concerned. There are women who are men and men who are women. One thing is of certain, if she/he is of the later type, then definitely he will use the men's room. There are some of them who are of more men than women or so to speak. They have a man's ability and sexuality even though physically they will appear as women. Another reason is that some of them still prefer to have sex with women other than with men. On the general point of view, this issue is so complex as the identity of transvestite. I wonder where they are placed when it comes to state ones sex. It is a rare, very rare recognized personality which is less known outside the western hemisphere. Well all in all it comes back to the person to decide which restroom befits his or herself. What matters here mostly is how other users of the same said room will react to his/her presence. This is (/should) not (be) an issue where those who are not concerned (not one of them) should take decision. It is there own case to make, while the rest needs to have that mr. nice environ of good understanding and tolerance about these acts.

I believe the custom is to use whichever restroom you are attired for. If dressed as a female, he should use the women's bathroom. Vice versa if he is dressed as a man. It's not like he would be intruding in a woman's restroom. The stalls are individual and there's really nothing to see. Besides, our bathrooms are always much cleaner than the men's.

Once I was in the ladies' room and a guy who was wearing women's clothing came in, headed straight for a stall and, I supposed, did his business. I was uncomfortable but I didn't think mall security should be called or anything. He didn't come in and see what he could see; quite the opposite.

I guess the alternative would be to look like a woman and go into the men's room and probably risk getting beat up.

I don't *think* there was a family restroom in that mall. I guess a family room would be the best bet.

If they look like a man, use the mens. If they look like a woman, use the womens restroom. Very simple question.

That depends on the laws of the state that you are in. For example, California and Maryland allow them to use either one. Most states require use as prescribed by physiology. YBIC

I guess they would just use which ever one they feel comfortable using (depends on the person) other wise they might just use the disabled loos.
