He averted the Cuban Missile crisis by talking with Khrushchev. He also proposed the civil rights bill to protect African Americans. In 1961 he initiated the allocating of money to space exploration and during one year of his speech John Glenn became the first American man to orbit the earth. Obviously without his determination we may not have the space capabilities we do today.

Keeping in mind that he was only president for 3 years, he accomplished much:

An example is his standing up against George Wallace when two black students were not allowed to enroll in UAB. He actually federalized the Alabama national guard to enforce allowing the students to enroll and attend classes.

He started the peace corps, and won the Nobel peace prize.

He also stood down the Russians during the cuban missile crisis.

Not bad for 3 years.

He accomplished next to nothing. He was not a popular President and his Presidency was failing when he was faced with re-election and went to Dallas to salve the wounds within the Democrat Party there. He needed Texas to win re-election, and the internecine warfare among democrats did not bode well for Kennedy. The rest is history. He never left Dallas alive and has been martyred and memorialized by the Kennedys as though he were a great president which he was not.

Chow!!

The Space Program was an acheivement
Peace Corp was an acheivement.

The Bay of Pigs was a failure for his administration.

I really don't think he shaped the country, but his assasination did.

He was known mostly for his looks and his beautiful wife. He really did not acomplish anything. He got us involved with the VietNam war. His brother Bobby was a good guy who prosicuted the mafia. JFK did not live long enough to acomplish anything. It is all a visual thing. Nothing else.
