If you want to get one then I say do it. I'm all for tattoos!! I'm not much for pain but I got one anyways because I've wanted one since 5th grade. LOL! Just don't put it on a bone or in an area where there are a lot of nerves & you'll be fine. Your shoulder should be fine cause that's muscle there. Places like a shoulderBLADE, ankle, underside of an arm & lower back should be avoided if you don't like too much pain. Another word of advice....bring a friend along w/ you who won't mind holding your hand if you need it. It helped for me. =o) My current one I got for myself for my 19th birthday. It's a small rose (for my name) on the muscle in between my spine & right shoulderblade. The pain wasn't bad at all...it was more slightly uncomfortable than it was painful. Even when the corner of it was on my shoulderblade it wasn't that bad. Have fun & good luck!
P.S. As for the guy trying to lecture you through a bible verse...Ignore him. He can shove it....there's this lovely thing God gave us called FREE WILL ;o) hahaha

The shoulder is one of the less painful places, so you have that going for you. Although it's a different pain than a piercing, I suspect if you can handle the pain of piercing you can take the tattoo. Assuming you go for it the initial pain might make you go "What was I thinking?", but the endorphins will kick in ~10 minutes after that.
It will always hurt a little, like scraping a sunburn with a stiff brush, but women's physiology being what it is you'll probably weather the pain better than the average guy. Wanting it will go a long way towards overcoming the psychological concerns over the tattoo (the bigger ones, in my experience).

Just remember that it does hurt...there are people who'll tell you otherwise...but they are lying or retarded...it freaking hurts.
But it is worth it if its something you truly want.
Also, remember that it is permanent. Make sure you get something that 30 years down the road you won't regret.
Piercings you can take out.
I suggest going to a parlor and asking them to test it out on you. Have them apply the needle without ink to see if you can take the pain.
It's also to keep in mind that when they do the black outline...it's a different sensation than when they do the color shading. They both hurt...but not in the same way.

i have two and for the people who say it hurts like hell then they cant stand pain very well but for me i have a high tolerance and it felt like i was being tickled except for when they go over the same spot a few times it starts to sting a little bit just slightly uncomfortable but nothing that breathing and focusing doesnt get rid of but ignore the people who quote the bible or say its forever and it wont look the same in 30years well all i have to say about that is duh people age skin wrinkles sh!t happens its life but everyone that has a tat knows this and doesnt care so i do say get one but dont waste some artists time by saying oh can you run the needle on me with no ink so i can feel it umm no they will still charge you for one because its their time two they have to wait then for that set of needles or equipment to get done in the autoclave and cool which is like 2 hrs and takes away from real money they can make so if your gonna do go for it but dont waste their time with it

i am scared of needles but yet i have 7 tattoos so far. i love them it was the best choice i have made. i have one one my shoulder and i barely felt it. the one on my ankle hurt the most. if you know the design you want and put it out to see everyday and you still dont get sick of it then go for it. just make sure if you have it on your arms that you dont want a job that dislikes them where they are visible.
