True love is a choice. It is a choice to be faithful to the one you have made a commitment to. It is extremely difficult in our day because we want things to be easy and to feel good. Love is hard, it doesn't always feel good. True love is not self centered, it is other person centered. Our culture is all about "me". Doing the right and loving thing is often painful. Loving someone through good times and bad takes a great deal of energy and courage. It is worth it in the end.

I think the definition of true love varies to a certain degree from culture to culture and from period of time to a period of time.

However, the virtue of it should be the same regardless whom and where it happens.

To get a taste of what is it, you can start reading some of the fables and tales of the past. Read deep into the stories and try to grasp what is the emotions and thinking behind the story lines.

Also, read stories from different culture also. There should be common idea behind them.

That definition is whatever one wants it to be in their life! There are several kinds of love. There is erotic love; agape love; and even self love. True love? What is it to you... Do you have a definition. We could say someone probably really truly loved us if they gave their life for us. But there is also another love that suggests "a love without conditions." That is Agape Love. God gave His Son in this manner, with no condition to accept and receive Him, except a yes. He did no wrong but took our wrongs away so we could have a relationship with Him. We cannot do this because we have many wrongs in our life. We make mistakes and need others to forgive us or we did it on purpose as revenge. Jesus forgave all who wanted forgiveness. We cannot even love a person as He did. We could only try and fail. He likes us to try, though,,, love your neighbor as yourself. Do no murder! These are words that spoke love for hate; beauty for ashes; and strength for weakness. We see many turn into themselves for themselves in our time. It is a sign of doom, if God does not intervene and He promises He will.. God bless. Earl
