Do you prefer to be called a black or an African American?

I'm not from the U.S. and I've been living here for more than a year. I've noticed that most people use the word "black" in referring to Af. Americans.

I wouldn't want somebody to categorize me using color.

Everytime I meet a black/ Af. American, I'm confused to which word I should use,(black or Af. American)?

You seem like a smart fellow. If we ever meet how about you call me neither? Seeing as I'm not from Africa and i'm not black in color. Just call me American.

I really prefer not being categorized by color at all. But the reality is that people will always do it, so I just became used to it.

The term African American is often used and is usually considered "politically correct" b/c the term "Black" has sort of a derogatory meaning, due to the connotation of the word.

I prefer "American" but I doubt we'll get over skin color...ever, so until then...

Just say black. I grew up in a predominantly black neighborhood for the greater half of my life and we all call ourselves black. The only people who say "African-American" are the PC idiots on the media.

I renowned it, notwithstanding this is no longer what makes me super. Africa makes me who i'm. basically for the checklist, you may p.c. to call your self despite you like. It would not replace who you're. do no longer replace into aggravated via those people who're no longer narcissistic and be attentive to who we are. There are thosef issues that i'm no longer pleased with being an American, however the single element that gadgets me different than for others is my historic previous as a black guy. Black individuals be attentive to lots greater effective than you concerning to the beginning of Africa and what it skill to be black in this international. i'm no longer caught on stupid stuff and ashamed of who i'm. particularly of being black, you're black West Indian. The indians are the poorest people alive, so which you went from undesirable to worst. Be who you're, and don't subject approximately yet another nationality that happens to be black.
