I used clothes soap once, had a foaming mess all over the floor. If you must use liquid dish soap, just use a tiny, little amount...better yet, why don't you just 'hand wash' your dishes, till you can get to the store? Maybe if that's not an option, you could just use the rinse and hold cycle...till you can get the right detergent. :)

Dish washing liquid is much more concentrated than dishwasher soap, which is why if you use the liquid that is made to wash dishes in the sink, you will get a kitchen full of bubbles, and a dishwasher full of dishes that have a lot of soap residue on them and will need to be washed all over again with the correct soap. Now there are some liquids that are made to use in the dishwasher, which ironically can also be called dish washing liquid, but they are sold in the section of dry dishwasher soap.

Ummm, if your out of dishwasher liquid for the machine, but you have dishwashing liquid for the sink, why not just wash your dishes by hand? Silly Q, but thanks for the points.

My brother did that one time at my mom's house. I came home late that night and fell on my butt!! The whold kitchen was nothing but bubbles. I don't mean just a few, like seriously up over my ankles throughout the whole kitchen. It was funny afterwards, but a big mess!!

You will end up with soap suds everywhere, and in need or a repairman, when you finish cleaning up.
