The fundamental goal of conservatism is to keep rich people rich. I know that sounds over-simplified but if you really look at it, it's true.
So along that thinking, the goal is an absurdity that no one would believe in except those who are rich. So to drum up support for it, you have to come up with all kinds of lies and techniques.
For example there's a conservative organization that studies words and how to re-phrase things to get the public to swallow it. They bring people in to do tests about what words and phrases work best. They renamed "The Estate Tax" to be "The Death Tax". No one had any problem with the estate tax until they started calling it the Death Tax.
Then there's Fox News. Need I say more? You have a really really really rich conservative guy who buys up a TV network. What do you get? A mountain of misinformation skewed to the right.
The straw man is yet another of these tactics. They're very impressive. It's like watching humanity fight itself. One group of well-funded determined minds trying to trick a larger group of less funded, distracted, less educated minds.

both sides do it, but i see your point. the best thing to do is educate yourself and develop your own beliefs so that you can stand up to any stereotypes people throw your way, and educate them, if possible. the worst thing a person can do is base their beliefs about others on what people around them say rather than learn for themselves. i find that to be the most ignorant thing people do these days when discussing politics.
(i.e., if a conservative bases their opinions on whatever bill o'reilly says, they come off sounding uneducated, unoriginal, and in need of some good ole book-learnin'.)

You don't seem to be having a problem telling people what you think, nor letting us know how you feel about "conservatives". I don't understand the problem I guess. I am a "conservative" and will tell you, speaking only for myself, I am tired of this kind of question. It's difficult to answer and basically makes no sense. That is just my thought, not pretending to speak for anyone else, liberal or conservative. Thanks

Not sure you have the right party - I think you are confused & meant to say the party that refuses to take credit for their own actions & decisions, the party that blames all their mistakes or "misjudgments" on our president - saying they were misled. You must mean the party that overlooks the indiscretions of it's members but wants to impeach a president that has morals & wants to protect this country against further terrorist attacks. Yes I do believe you are mistaken! Thank you!

We don't tell people what you think, we only comment on your actions. If that comes out sounding ridiculous it's probably because your actions are ridiculous. You know like of you were trying to describe the actions of a circus clown in a serious manner it would still come out sounding like a clown.

Because they just can't keep out of other people's business---plain and simple. If someone is not thinking, speaking or acting like them, they think it is their God-given right and duty to bring them into line.
