I hate the idea of using distraction as an excuse for the government to enforce what you do or don't do in the privacy of your own car.
If you crash because of some distraction,, it is your fault. not the cell phone cigarette or whatever caught your eye at the time.
If we hold ourselves accountable for our actions there is no need for the government to make laws that micromanage your daily activities.

Actually it can be an offence just like if you were eating a sandwich. If the police can prove you were driving without due care and attention whilst lighting or smoking a cigarette, or eating or using a mobile phone, or even changing a CD, then you will be prosecuted. Whatever the activity it can be considered an offence.

Far more people are able to inhale/exhale and drive than are able to carry on a conversation and drive. It's a question of function brain cells and the numbers thereof.
The addition of tobacco in the in/ex equation is incidental. If you burn yourself or damage your car... Oh well!
Best wishes!

I think its because people get so wrapped up in their conversations and forget what theyre doing. but good point about dropping the butt that is much worse than dropping a cell.

the whole point is you are not allowed to drive talking on the blower .how many accidents been caused by smoking .I have never heard of any .But my daughter was ran into by a driver on the phone. He went across red light .But he didn't use it to phone the ambulance or the police though we all know why.
