Iran, India and Qatar have confirmed bids to host the 2011 edition of the AFC Asian Cup..
I think India will likely be the choice but India never even qualifies for the dam* thing! This might be a good way to promote football in India.

andygurl: I think youre spot on with economic problems. In addition to economic problems, sports aren't really promoted in the country like it i in say australia. i have a lot of indian friends and they say footie is very popular(behind crikcet) but yet they dont do well due to development.. football is less popular in australia yet the socceroos are great in footie and other sports due to development and resoures.

A lot of economical problems to be overcome there Ashkon. Will there be adequate accommodation etc. It will I agree be a positive move to highlight the sport in India. Some are very devoted, but it needs to have more participation and sponsorship and support. It's hard to promote a sport that isn't typically the first choice sport of a nation.

yes, it will be a good way. Look, I am an indian. I prefer both footie and cricket, just like my friends. There are a lot of people here in india who adore football. I'm sure you haven't seen any indian channels during the world cup. They discussed people's views about footie for 2 hours each day in kerala. Some supported france, some brazil and some italy. You had to see the joy of those who supported france when they won against brazil.
Currently in india, 2 clubs are very strong - Goa, Kerala. The thing is that the style of play differs. When i watch them, i feel that i can play better than them. That's coz i watch European football most of the time and i play like em.
India will qualify, they must! We must find some new talents, coz bhutia will retire by 2011.

I think Qatar should host the Asian cup coz there clubs are very good.India doesnt have any good club for soccer they r not ready for it.
