I created a database out of my address book. It is my networking database. It gives their name, address, phone, where they work, partner, family (children, etc), pets, and when I last spoke with them. I can then pull queries from it for Christmas card lists, etc.

Why don't u make a database for the alumni association of your school/college/institute ? Or a database for your monthly expenses ? Katyokfau's suggestion is also frequently used during learning.
