Copa America is the regional tournament for nations in South America, though they have integrated two spots for North American countries (usually USA and Mexico) then they have one or two more spots for any invited nation (usually another from Central America Honduras, Costa Rica, etc.)

Copa Libertadores is a "club" level tournamnet (formely known as Copa Toyota Libertadores) this is the Champions League equivalent of South America. Again, they have integrated clubs from North and Central America by means of pre-tournament matches.

Copa Sudamerican (aka Copa Nissan Sudamerica) is really the UEFA League of North and South America.

Little History:
Back then, winner of the Copa Libertadores would play against the winner of the Champions League in Tokyo, Japan for the Intercontinental Cup hosted by Toyota Motors.
So, it was pretty much a showdown of American and European club soccer powers, though in the later years it didn't make sense as probably half the team of the European club were from brasil, argentina, uruguay or colombia..

Copa America is the oldest international football/soccer tournament. It was started in 1916 and is run by CONMEBOL. They generally invite two or three teams outside their conference to compete.

Copa Sudamericana is played by CONMEBOL and CONCACAF teams. This is one of the most important cups aside from the Copa Libertadores for South America.
