Now im not a fanboy of either, but I have bought my last four processors as AMD since they were just so cheap and amazingly ahead of Intel.
Given the markets today Intel has an awesome Core 2 Duo.
As a gamer I want something affordable that has a lot of capability to expand. I was thinking of the 6300 core 2. I recently read however of AMD releasing a four core chip that has significantly better power than those of Intel, and will be releasing in two months. Seeing as how AMD just released it's best processor at 450 dollars right now, should i consider waiting for an AMD that may be priced at a great value,...or should i buy a core 2....,also does vista make any difference in my decision???

Just buy the quad core from AMD. I think you will get what you paid for.

Well if your going Dual Core Intel is the best bet even though you shouldn't stop thinking about AMD, AMD was first in most of the CPU developments. I have a Intel Core 2 Dual with ViiV technology and I love the hell out of it, great for multitasking and gaming. Also on the fact of Quad-Cores, even thought the last AMD was pretty cheap considering the technology I wouldn't wait up on the Quad-core as it's basically like two Dual Cores so I bet it shall be expensive. Also if your planning to go Vista (I would wait at least another year or until Service Pack 2 for it comes out for it) Dual-Core is key (Quad-Core if you got the moneys).

I have always been a fan of AMD over Intel but there is some newer technology around the corner and I would wait. I would look at the cedarmill chip that is coming out for Intel but really what will be happening is that you will see the release of more and more of quad core machines in the future.

If you are a gamer and that is your main application, do realize that a lot of your computer will be happening at your vid card, so maybe upgrade your video card now and wait for the next gen of chips to come out.

As for Vista, wait on that too as it has problems with drivers for games and hardware still.

I dont think processor is most important for gamers, VGA and RAM may more affordable than buying new processor ( and you may need new motherboard too)

My CPU is 256mb VGA, 1Gb RAM and only 2,66 Ghz P4 Processor! but i can play newest games like NFS CARBON smoothly........
