Thing is with this trade, it happened when Carmello had his suspension. So AI got used to it for 15 games without mello, but when he came back, AI got injured. Then there was the Steve Blake trade and he has been taking JR smiths minutes away from him. and Camby has been injured the past week. And when he got healthy he started to play really inconsistent. Mello and AI aren't known for their defense. So if i was the nuggets i'd trade either JR smith or Blake for a good devensive player to make up for AI and mello. They already have a good devensive big man so all the need is a good devensive little man. Also they should try and start Evans instead of Nene for a couple games and see what happens. I mean Evans averges 9 rebounds in less that 20 in less than 20 mins of play, and he can be a high FG% if you give him the chance to be... So all they have to do is experiment and see what happens. Also they will probably click and be the team to beat in the west with the Suns and Mavs... maybe even the clippers. lol

Defense
Scoring wasn't a problem for the Nuggets all year. All the talk about getting Melo another offensive threat to take the load off his shoulders wasn't warranted. JR Smith was doing just fine as a second option on offense and Miller was one of a few true point guards left in this league.
Getting Iverson really added nothing to the team. Offensively they're really no better, since Miller is a better set up man and could also get a shot later on when needed.
Defensively losing Smith hurt. While no world beater, the Nuggets Front Court isn't the picture of health and he added quality depth to the lineup. Camby and Najera aren't spring chickens out there and a long with Nene, Karl is probably holding his breath every night hoping they stay healthy. Miller wasn't a good defender by any means, whether or not his size made him any better than AI out there is debatable. AI's speed doesn't really matter since most PGs in the league blow past him.
I'm not sure what the remaining schedules look like for all the teams in the West still vying for the 7th and 8th spots, but assuming they're about equal I don't see any reason the Nuggets don't hold onto at least the 8th spot, provided they stay healthy. Not that they would get past the first round once there.

Iverson is a horrible defender who likes to gamble all the time to rack some steals. He gets posted by virtually everybody. This requires at a solid defensive back court. Nene is OK, but does not move well enough to cover for him. Camby is good shotblocker but needs the ball on offense to get going defensively. With AI & Melo he doesn't get many touches and often just goes through the motions. The only time Iverson was thriving was when he got Mutombo, Ratliff, Lynch and Hill behind him to defend without asking for the ball. Ideally he wants guys like Ben Wallace. Drew Gooden is another name I can think. Mark Madsen off the bench can fill similar role.

I definitely don't see them falling out of the playoffs. Melo has been suspended, A.I. got hurt, they have yet to play a nice string of games together. But when they do, I'd say watch out. No one's gonna wanna face the two of the top five scorers in the NBA on one team.

It takes time to understand a new system and get comfortable with your new partners. You cannot just stick a player into a system and expect them to understand it. Basketball requires memorization and understanding where your teammates are. You need to get used to their pros and cons. This will allow you to play as a team. Also IMO, two superstars as AI and Melo on the same team can cause a lot of problems. There offense will be there with two great scorers, but their defense is very poor.

The problem is that Allen Iverson is adjusting to his new teammates and to a new offensive system. It's sort of a culture shock for him as he was used to being the main man in Philadelphia and now he's not the main man anymore.

the guy with 2 first names...GEORGE KARL...cant handle people..wears out his welcome by not taking responsibility..its always the players fault...and he lets them know in the paper, not in person..he thinks he knows it all because he went to north carolina..his 2 coaching mentors are Doug Moe and Don Nelson, 2 guys who have had talented teams but could never get to the top of the hill...besides the team is is a bad mix of players, no real power forward..no really good backup players on the bench and no real history of success...you have to have a good mix to go with your 2 stars and denver does not have that...
