who are unfortunate enough to have to go into hospital for more than, say, a week not contribute the money they would normally spend on food (only) to the hospital or relevant NHS Trust? After all, they can't eat both at home & in hospital.

I think that anybody that is in-patient in Hospital should pay for their food ,(albeit inedible most of the time )
There would obviously have to exceptions for some groups of people,BUT why when the majority of patients not buying food for home consumption should they be provided with free food in Hospitals.

I think the OAP's deserve everything free myself, they're struggling as it is without having to give money back. Why should they give anything - they worked hard for their money and saved for their rainy days. No, the OAP's shouldn't pay a thing.

Obviously you like hospital food, the majority of people don't - it's disgusting. When I've been in I found most people including myself get food brought in from outside.

I'll not say anything about people on benefit because there are those that are cheats and those that worked for the little they get.

Sorry I don't agree with your idea.

Most OAP'S have worked and paid National Insurance and taxes to educate a mean person like you, they paid so they could be sure of being looked after in the later years. Things are changing so when your day comes I hope you have enough money to live on Pal.

A friend of mine is in hospital in London, where they dish her up foreign food, (no British food at all) which she cannot eat due to bowel problems. There has been no attempt to replace a meal for her. Her husband takes her food in for her. So what should she pay for? Is it fair for her to subsidise others food because she is more or less the only English person in the ward?? Its easy to say these things, putting them into practice is something else.A little more thought perhaps?
