if you already have a house rabbit , keep the hay , which is essential to a rabbits diet, in a room where the rabbit can get to it but the person with asthma doesn't have to go into that room often. if you are thinking of getting a house rabbit have the person with asthma exposed to rabbits and hay before you make your decision. hay is usually the problem when people say that they are allergic to rabbits. my mom has asthma. when she comes to my house or pet sit for me she has NO reaction. not everyone has reactions to the same things. my mom has a problem breathing when she goes to my uncles house, he has 2 parrots. cats and rabbits are far from being the same allergy. fur it's self does not cause the allergy, it's the dander of the animal. rabbits have less dander than cats and it's a totally different type anyway. i'm allergic to cats but not rabbits. get allergy testing!!

I'm sure you could... but you may consider getting one with rex fur... or a short haired breed that doesn't shed as much as others....

If anyone in your family is allergic to cats, though, a rabbit is not for you. Most people that are allergic to cats are also allergic to rabbits...

Sure! As long as she's not allergic to rabbits too! I have asthma and have a dozen rabbits!

Of course you can. It depends on the type of asthma a member of your family has. If it is food induced, then having a rabbit will not trigger the asthma.

Possibly, but I strongly recomend using a product called carefresh instead of shavings. Shavings are very dusty and can irritate someone with asthma.

Rabbits are a highly allergenic animal so I'd have your sister tested to make sure.

No, don't think that's a good idea. My sister has asthma, we could only have birds growing up, she had really bad reactions to things with fur.
