Probably 80% of people who call in are not sick. But when you stop to think about it, if your employer pays you while you have a sick day, then aren't you tempted to take a day off with pay? I never understood those salaried employees and why they get paid to not be at work.

Haha...i called in sick once when i worked in Arizona.
Turns out, i was on vacation in San Diego.
I had to go into the hallway in the hotel to call in so they couldn't hear the ocean waves from the room!

I think it is sort of a half and half situation. Sometimes a person can be genuinely sick and other times they are just sick of work.

Well, sure -- the flu recently circulated in my office and folks very obviously got sick and subsequently called in.
I'm sure there are lots of blue-flu folks out there too, but to answer your question, yea -- I think sick people call in sick.

No, because I would rather spend my sick days at work and then use my sick days for something else.

Early in my career, I would call in to spend the day with my boyfriend (now husband). Now I'm really sick, so I guess karma came back and bit me.

Most of the time I really am sick, but I am sometimes hungover, and pretend to be sick.
