Im trying to figure out if its cheaper to buy in bulk, or just stick with the smaller stores and buy regular sized stuff.

it depends on the item and how often you use that item to decide if it's worth buying in bulk

some items are worth buying in bulk like:

toilet paper( anyone who has eaten at Taco Bell and gotten the run for the border bombs you know this all too well)
disposable diapers (if you have small children who still use them)

there are some smaller stores I get regular items at that are great like:

Aldi for munchies and snacks (Aldi is great for that stuff if you have one near you)

Dollar General and Family Dollar for Tea Bags for Iced Tea (I drink it all year long for my caffiene instead of soda pop and dollar general is perfect for that)

But other then the factors I mentioned it's more a personal preference choice and that is a decision you need to make for yourself

I love the idea of buying bulk, but I find that either I cannot get through all of it before it spoils, I eat more of it than I intended to, or I have to force myself to eat just the bulk item. Add to this the inconvenience of shopping at a place like Costco (can't get out of there without a 2 hour ordeal) and suddenly paying an extra $0.25 for mustard doesn't seem so extravagant. For me, financially, it's about the same factoring all that is wasted or unwanted in bulk. But lifestyle-wise, I much prefer the smaller grocery stores.

Sam's Club. I like buying in larger quantity that way I don't have to be in the store every week buying stuff I've run out of.
