"Affect" is a verb and "effect" is usually used as a noun.

Example:

I can affect the outcome of the game by cheating.

My cheating had an effect on the outcome of the game.

‘Affect’ has a more personal connotation than ‘effect’. To ’affect’ is to influence or move in some physical or emotional way, whereas to ‘effect’ is to bring about a material change or result.
