these are the stupidest answers ive ever seen! a dead battery? shorted out from water? gee who would have thought of that? maybe i should have stated explicitly that I was looking for unusual causes.

If it is an automatic, it'll stop because the rotor isn't wound up enough. To keep an automatic going, make sure that the watch gets enough movement to keep the watch wound sufficiently. Most autos have a 48-72 hour power reserve when fully wound. If you don't want to wear your watch everyday (or if you have multiple autos), get a watch winder so it never winds down.

Also, if is a hand wind, you need to wind it everyday to keep it going (think old pocket watches). Again, if this is too much of a hassle, you can get a watchwinder to do it for you.

You need to replace your battery. They are inexpensive and most shops will replace the battery for you for free + the cost of the battery.

The battery runs out of juice. . . Or, you forget to wind the stem on a wind-up watch . . .

1.Dead battery
2.you put it in water
3.you drop it in the tolit on accident
4.its old and just stops working
