Nope.
The majority of my history is important to no one but me and my family. I had bacon and eggs for breakfast with my boys. That is part of today's history but of little overall importance.
Even thought fact that I'm feeding them and that spending family time together will help make them better people does contribute to society as a whole, this is not notable history.
Even the preservation of much of our corporate history would be unwarranted. My personal experience mostly comes from bridge replacement projects.
When a new bridge is needed, should we really keep the old bridge? This typically adds cost and required the use of more resources for construction. Also often impacting a greater footprint of land that will become road and bridge vs natural. History of this type should be preserved only if it is rare, significant, and beneficial to people. (Some bridges in public places make attractive fishing docks.... not sensible if the bridge is in the middle of nowhere and virtually no one will come visit it)

Yes.
Historic artifacts are important because they tell scientists more about something. Modern time is a repeat of the past. Nothing in the universe only happens once. By locating mistakes from the past, by historic artifacts, we can help build a more advanced and secure future. Even little everyday things, like what we ate or wore today, may be important. If you get poisoned, it would be nice to know what you did and who you met that day. Everything we do or who we meet contains a purpose.

everything is historic because it happened before now so its importance is only measured by its public reaction

No.
Only if it has had an impact on present day society and the greater the impact or change it has caused the greater its significance
