A proxy is a way for you to surf the web unanimoulsly. Every computer has an address online, an IP address.

If you use a proxy server service your address won't show up. It's very similar to calling someone by phone and hiding your phone number, *69 if I remember!

Hope this helps!

"A proxy server is a computer that offers a computer network service to allow clients to make indirect network connections to other network services. A client connects to the proxy server, then requests a connection, file, or other resource available on a different server. The proxy provides the resource either by connecting to the specified server or by serving it from a cache. In some cases, the proxy may alter the client's request or the server's response for various purposes, usually to view websites normally not allowed, such as game or pornography site at work or school."

Instead of connecting directly to a website you computer connects only to a proxy server (another computer on the Internet) and the proxy server connects your computer to the destination website.
