Grafted, or not, makes no difference. Just trim the branches at the length you want. I mean flat, parallel to the ground. I had one in my family yard that was about 40' tall. We trimmed in every spring, and it was beautiful. May be I haven't explained well enough. How about if it looks like a bowl, upside down? If you don't like that answer, call an arborist. Maybe they'll give you an answer you like.

i dont think you are going to trim it that low to the graft are you just trim the ends of the branches it will be ok
