I prefer the Bronte's though its hard to believe they could write with so much passion, in their passionless lives, it was very austere in those days with their father patrick being a parson and their mother dieing young. Jayne Eyre is a reflection of the harsh times they were young and the school they attended, characters they encountered.

Jane Austen, hands down. She's so wonderfully romantic without being sappy. Her characters are strong men and women who fight for what they want each in their own way. But she humanizes them with believable flaws and problems. It makes it easy for us to relate to them.

Jane Austin, for her sarcasm and dry wit.
