Since I first started on Y/A(further back than my profile indicates) I asked for the same thing . At that time, I thought a 'political test or world affairs test' should be given and only QUALIFIED users should be allowed to register on that separate site . However, I now think that a 'sanity and rationality test' should also be included because some of the users are clearly intelligent, but also clearly insane .

It sounds like an excellent idea. Problem is, people asking questions that belong in the first category, and people will ask questions that are in a gray area (it may be an intelligent and serious question, but it'll offend one side). It becomes a real issue should a moderator be among the offended and moves a question that shouldn't be moved, then everyone asks a bunch of loaded quesitons about how this question belongs here or there.

Absolutely.Of course, that last category won't have many users.I don't think many people here are capable of mustering a civilized response or a coherent argument.
And it would have to be strictly moderated, maybe by a group of like minded users.Would Yahoo go for that?

It should be two -
1. Politics discussion
2. Discussion of people with thuis are that views.
And if miscategorized then moder will move.

Aye, Aye... Totally agree with you. Also we must have an agreement that questions should be look at on their merits and answered HONESTLY.
How that will be policed, I don't know.

Good idea Coyote. However, I would prefer a "Survivor" type scenario so we can vote off of this website all of the hateful people.

"Mixing it up" is good politics. Academic debate is boring.
