I have a homework question ASAP:

We have to read an article about how a placebo drug really does have an effect on you because of the beleif in the dummy medications leads to actual changes in the brain.

We had a list of questions and i couldnt seem to get this one:

The question is: Describe the operational definition of the independent and dependent variables. How are the variables defined; how are they measured?

ANY HELP PLEASE? Thank you.

The independent is the cause or treatment or pill or placebo.
The dependent is the effect or reaction.

You are not giving enough information. The question you are referring to applies to the specific study, making it impossible for us to offer insight without that intimate knowledge.
That being said, operationalizing refers to the quantification of your variables- so focus on how the material was objectively defined and handled.
