The camera that was mounted on the craft that they landed in took the photos. . Recall that there is no atmosphere in space or on the moon so they could just leave it mouted without worrying about wind blasts destroying it.

May be he was coming up the latter other wise someone else was first would have filmed him going down the latter. Or it could have been a special video production

Maybe its a satellite camera fixed on the moon. It is kind of confusing for me too.
