It is so difficult. I have had real problems with this. You have to wait till there sporning. Males have spots on their gill plates and tubercles on their front fins (these look like bumpy bits on the front edge). The female is harder. She normally looks fatter from top view but thats not a sure bet. When they are ready to bread she will get harassed heavily. The males are randy little buggers! Also If you see her release her eggs thats a sure bet.
Fish shops wont sex them. If they know one is a female dont be surprised if they put £££ on the price.

Goldfish are one of the hardest to sex you can never tell if they are male or female. I can tell you that the female is biggher and plumper, if the female is still growing then you have to wait for its colour to become golder. The male has bigger fins and always is at the end ,if its chasing a female.

the males are usualy more coulourfull... and on sum species the dorsal fins are different shape...... ie... a male swordtail has a long fin underneath a female swordtail dusnt

Usually,the male is bigger than the female,or it's body pattern is different.

If they make a mark in the sand while swimming...Its a male.

did you not ask were you got it from ? on a lot of fish its the bottom fin on there body that tells you ; good luck
